July 5th NICU Charity Sew Day

Unbelievable that I caught up all my pictures today! Another check off the to-do list!

We had a really good time sewing quilts for the local NICU unit at VCU Medical Center. We used patterns from Michelle's Romantic Tangle and some people used their own patterns.

A note on Michelle's Romantic Tangle. Her blog is a fun read anyway but she is really supporting making baby quilts. I hope you'll check her out!

I also owe a big thanks to AF&AM Manchester Lodge #14 for the use of their wonderful space!

You will see quilts more than once on this slideshow because no less than 3 people touched each quilt. Some cut, some sewed, some pressed, some quilted and some bound. I don't think anything in this slideshow was completed by just one person. I felt it was - and is - a labor of love. We're still quilting and binding. We hopefully can set up another day in October to do this again!

We made 11 quilts on July 5th. Some are out for their first wash and will be given to the NICU unit already!

July 2014 Little Women

Okay! Caught up on our Little Women Group! Whew! July was such a fun meeting. We had Celestia's Lancaster adventures and the story of the wonderful unicorn she made for her sister. We were all in awe of the workmanship! There are a lot of baby quilts in this group from our charity sew day on July 5th. I will work on those photos and upload them later - might not mean today! Enjoy these wonderful ladies!!

April Flowers at Our House

We love our dogwood tree. We planted it many years ago and it's amazing how big it has gotten. Troy planted some tulips in the fall and they were beautiful!

April 2014 Little Women

I have not been here in so long! I lost my mojo for quilting for a little bit but am recovering! With that, I do have pictures of groups that kept feeding my soul and got me back on track! I hope you enjoy the creativity of these women. They are all so talented and add so much to my life!

2014 Beach Retreat

We had the best time at the retreat! We had snow - FINALLY!! - at the beach. I ran around the deck catching snow in my mouth to see if it tasted salty. It did a little bit! It was a wonderful gathering of friends and, as usual, we all helped each other get out of jams. We shared sewing techniques and experiences. That makes us all better seamstress. I can't wait to do it again in 2015! However, in 2015, I will make sure I don't delete some of the pictures. I don't have pictures here that were on the camera. It's a new camera and I didn't get everything transferred to my computer and deleted many pictures. Enjoy the pictures I did manage to keep!

Dear Bonnie and Jane - Feb 8th

Our group for Bonnie Hunter and Dear Jane projects is kicking off well! Not everyone is working on Bonnie or Jane quilts but that's okay! We're just about fun and fellowship! I really have to start to remember to get pictures of my own projects!

Red and White Challenge

I am participating in Sew Cal Gal’s “A Year of Red and White Quilts” Challenge.

I know some of you have red and white quilts to share! Go to SewCalGal and READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! I didn't and I should have! Mary - I know you're making a red and white quilt and now I'll have to start another one!!

This quilt is from Bonnie Hunter's Blue Ridge Beauty - completed in 2012. This quilt is now living in Texas and was made from fabric from an exchange. This is a M-O-N-S-T-E-R quilt. It is 111 x 113. I would encourage you to always follow Bonnie's suggestion of making quilts using the Leaders and Enders method - which is also the name of the book this pattern is in. It's an easy pattern - good for even beginners. There are a lot of pieces!

This is from the Pinwheel Party by Ellen Pahl. The pattern is called Three of Hearts. This quilt is finished (completed in 2013) - I just don't seem to have a picture of it finished! This is one of the sweetest quilts and the pattern went together well. You'll love every step of putting this together!

Come play along!

Snow Pictures

The snow this week was so pretty! I only wish I could get a snow day. When you work from home, there's no such thing. Oh, well!

Here's the front yard. Mom, remember the Cedar of Lebanon tree?

Another shot of the front yard.

A couple from the back deck

And once you've been outside, come in and enjoy the fire!

Quilt Retreat

We had an in-town quilt retreat last weekend. It's so nice to sew with friends and go home and sleep in your own bed. We had a very, very fun time - even with the snow and the cold. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves about the talent in the group!

Finishing Up!

Happy New Year to all! I hope you have had time to do whatever you love. I have really been working on completing some of my UFO's and have made a dent! Most of the quilts completed are small and I can't even tell you when they were started. I hope you enjoy the slide show!

Some quilts I really liked and wanted to give them their own space here. From my favorite group, Jo Jo's Little Women at Jo Jo's Quilt Shop in Chesterfield, VA, here are two versions of the same quilt. We're working from Lori Smith's book, Fat Quarter Quilting. Here is the first quilt of the year, Baskets, 30's Style

This was a fun quilt! Cute as can be - 16" x 20"
Then I made a version with no applique that is 18" x 24"

Hanging in our den right now is Snow Friends! Nice to come home to! This is 52" x 63 1/2"

This is my favorite finish of the year. It's from Merry Mayhem - Mystery #136 that she did New Year's Day. It's just right up my alley today. This one is 60" x 71 1/2". I hope you love it!

So, I've completed a lot! But I also found a lot of projects I didn't have on my list. Here is where I stand for 2014

2014 New Quilt Projects: 1
2014 Completed: 0

UFO’s 1/1/14: 63
Still adding as I find them! UFO’s Completed 2014: 11

Total Square Yards Used: 18.6

Happy Quilting!
